Yeah - Elizabeth is a mom from Illinois who has 3 kids - a boy and a girl both with type 1, and Alexander, who has type 3 (he's about 14 yrs. old now I think). She is the one I told you about - she was on the advisory board but decided to leave because she had too much stuff going on (Alexander has had A LOT of bleeding problems).

Bob is my exboyfriend. He runs 3 bleeder camps in NY right now - one for boys, one for girls, and now a family camp that is coming up Columbus Day weekend.

Big stick award!

by Jessica on 08-24-2009 at 11:02 AM
So Jeremy and I went to bleeder camp two weeks ago (yay Camp Hot-to-Clot!!!!) and I finally tried sticking him for the first time (venipuncture, that is). And then that evening he stuck himself for the first time! He had to dig a little, but he finally got it! Now he's ready to start practicing on a regular basis. I'm so happy - I no longer feel like such a bleeder mom failure

Car accident

by Jessica on 06-18-2009 at 10:33 AM
My mom and son were in a car accident in the middle of April, and things have been a little crazy ever since. Luckily Jeremy wasn't seriously injured, but it was definitely scary getting that phone call. Some woman was nice enough to stop and let him use her cell, and while he was telling me how he was doing and about my mom injuring her arm, it suddenly occurred to me - "TELL THEM YOU HAVE A SEVERE BLEEDING DISORDER!!!!!" I yelled. Luckily my best friend's mom was one of the EMTs on

Almost 13

by Jessica on 04-02-2009 at 09:40 AM
My son Jeremy will turn 13 next month. I'm not sure which part of that fact freaks me out the most, but one thing I do know for certain is that things have turned out a lot better than I thought they ever would way back in the beginning, almost 13 years ago. I have to say, health-wise he is doing pretty good (a pretty sharp contrast to all the terrible things I had once imagined for him).

Always, I'm gonna be the parent of a teenager soon. God, I'm old.

Getting kinda down

by Jessica on 01-14-2009 at 10:50 AM
My son has been dealing with what I thought was a muscle bleed for a little over a week now. Turns out that whatever bleeding may have occurred is now resolved (thanks to infusing the living crap out of him), but the pain from the bleed was at some point replaced with the pain of keeping the muscle immobilized for too long. Who knew you could have such severe pain from keeping an injury still for too long? Anyways, I took him into the HTC last week, and on our way out after finishing up, my son's

Ports & Roasts

by Jessica on 11-25-2008 at 10:22 AM
Our HTC had a dinner last night to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of our parent group, and I was talking to a couple of moms and the nurse from our adult center about my inability to prepare any kind of meat other than chicken. To which my nurse said, "If you can stick a port, you can cook a roast."

Encouragement - bleeder style.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
