Austin had gotten to the point where he was bleeding 2-5 times a day and couldn't go to school. His local ENT said it couldn't be cauterized anymore and referred us to an ENT in Nashville that did more extensive work, including a septal dermoplasty. The ENT in Nashville evaluated Austin and did a septoplasty and he's recovered so well! His thinking was that by completely separating the tissue from the bone and cartilage, and then packing it with clotting material before putting the tissue back,

Well gang, Austin is still cruising with daily bleeds. Things are worse, not better. But I think we have a game plan. We have some things in the works, and I'll share more about them later. We have an appointment tomorrow morning for a Humate challenge at St Jude and after that I should have an even better handle on the situation.

Well, this week has been interesting so far.
Here's what we went through earlier this week, in a nutshell:
Austin had more than a dozen since having his nose cauterized last Thursday and Tuesday was a doozie that sent us to the ER. The experience was horrible. Basically hematology didn't even bother to see him, they just told the intern in the ER to infuse him and send him home. I think the cautery the ENT did last Thursday is working! ***knocking on wood***
He tried to go to school Friday and had 4 bleeds and had to go home for another infusion. But since that last infusion he hasn't had a single bleed!
He was hurting pretty bad Friday, and missed the game Friday night. And he was really worried because the band policy is that if you miss a practice, you miss all activities following that practice. He missed practice Thursday, and there was a home game
